Web Design/Developer

A web developer is a software developer or software engineer who specializes in, or is specifically engaged in, the development of World Wide Web applications, or distributed network applications that are run over HTTP from a web server to a web browser. When creating a website, developers have to make their client’s vision a reality. They work with clients to determine what sites should be used for, including ecommerce, news, or gaming. The developer has to decide which applications and designs will fit the site best. If you are interested specifically in design work, you would be re responsible for how a website looks. The designer creates the site’s layout and integrate graphics; applications, such as a retail checkout tool; and other content into the site. They also write web-design programs in a variety of computer languages, such as HTML or JavaScript.

If you choose an educational/career pathway as a web designer or web developer, you would work for a computer systems design firm, or in telecommunications, finance, entertainment, television, retail, or insurance. Of note: 17% of web designers or developers were self-employed in 2010.
